Cool Toys Pic of the day – I Had Cancer

I Had Cancer:

First, let me apologize for the absence. A tree fell on my garage, we
were without power, things have been crazy, and my kid and I are both
ill. So. I’ve missed a few blogposts. Now, back to the topic.

I Had Cancer is a social network.
I Had Cancer is a support group.
I Had Cancer is a digital storytelling initiative.

Personally, I still think the number one place to go for information
and support if you have cancer is ACOR.org, however, there are many
kinds of cancers, many kinds of people with cancer, many kinds of
cancer experiences, and there is certainly a need for many different
types of online spaces and support communities. It’s fairly new-ish
and building up the community. They are incorporating a number of
engaging social media and social networking activities, from the
forums to the stories and videos, from Facebook and Twitter to the
Twibbon.

I am particularly impressed by the way they have incorporated digital
storytelling and videos into the site. I am looking forward to
watching the site grow.

  1. What a wonderful site! I have a 15 yr old son who has gone three rounds battling AML since he was 13, which has included two bone marrow transplants, so I’m looking forward to sharing this with him.

  2. That is the value of online communities like this, Caroline, reaching out to young folk on their own ‘turf’, in ways that will hopefully be meaningful and supportive to them. I hope your son finds it helpful!
