Cool Toys Pic of the day – Join RED

Yesterday was World AIDS Day, the beginning of World AIDS Week, with
series of activities, engagement, education, outreach, support,
activism, and more, all internationally. We all know how social media
has woven through so much of our culture now, and this was
particularly evident yesterday, especially in Join (RED) which
combined activities from several of the major platforms, showing
support activity from around the globe via the many platforms.

Join (RED):

Included were Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare. The tweets and likes
and posts and check-ins and shoutouts were all charted to an
interactive map allowing the viewer to zoom in and see specific
activity. See the images or go browse yourself and see what you can
find. This was a wonderful idea, but you won’t find me on the map. You
also won’t find any of the other people I know personally who also
participated. Not sure what went wrong with the tech, but hopefully
they’ll get the bugs ironed out before next year. Meanwhile, realize
that the map is incomplete and that actual numbers are far higher than
what was shown.

This was only one project like this. There were several others. What
else was going on? Google has something they’ve been doing lately
where you can search for a link, and then at the bottom of the page it
allows you to find similar pages. This is really cool and very very
useful, for me at least.
